3 weeks to go!

Come share a well-earned drink with us on exhibition night - Wed 30 Nov from 6-9 pm - and enjoy the fruits of our labour!

In order to raise the $55,000+ needed to stage the CO|LAB exhibition for 70 students, all graduating Interior Designers and Decorators students have worked tirelessly throughout the year.

We found over 70 generous industry sponsors. We held a hugely successful designer auction hosted by Stylecraft. We were sponsored to run (well, walk…) the City to Surf. We sold raffle tix at CafĂ© Culture as part of Saturday In Design. Together, we have given ourselves the opportunity to stage an unforgettable exhibition for graduating students this year - CO|LAB.

In order to make the exhibition as environmentally responsible a process as possible, the majority of materials purchased will be kept to be re-used by students at Design Centre Enmore.

A huge thanks to all of our sponsors, in particular to our Platinum sponsors - Aspect Designs, Stylecraft, Brighton Australia and Sunscreen.

CO|LAB - the concept

5 weeks out, we thought we’d share with you a little about the CO|LAB concept and exhibition design selection process.

Over our 3 or more years at Design Centre Enmore the professional interior designers, architects, decorators and draftspeople who teach us have emphasised the importance of a strong concept in realising quality design.

At the beginning of this year, all graduating Interior Design and Decoration students came together to explore the idea of ‘stretch’ and how it applied to design in general, our own design work and our future in the industry. Split up into 16 teams, we then had the task of teasing out a concept from this starting point for the design of our graduate exhibition.

In one night of presentations and voting, all kinds of concepts were presented - from thinking about the materiality of skin to pushing beyond the everyday. Students and teachers voted to select one design, with the CO|LAB concept coming up the winner. The winning team behind CO|LAB is: Sanova Amiri, Connie Condylios, Alan Foster, Tuyen Le, Elizabeth Phan and Kelly Silm.

Their unique and challenging concept is that the exhibition will be…

“an anatomic manifestation of form and function. It is an opportunity to explore our selves as single cells that collaborate for a common purpose. CO|LAB as an event will invite guests to enter and experience students’ work as individuals and as a collective.”

Based around the idea of collaboration being integral to all design processes, students’ work will be displayed on custom-designed mega-light boxes – as a collective - or intimate stands - as individual cells linked together. Multi-media and light will play important roles in the creation of the exhibition spaces and experience.

Next week we’ll post more about the process of developing the exhibition design – stay tuned!

Celebrating World Interiors Day 2011

In celebration of World Interiors Day 2011, the DCE Interior Design + Decoration department hosted drinks for final year students last Thursday and invited renowned designer and educator Madeline Lester to address the crowd. Madeline proudly read aloud the historic Interiors Declaration recently produced by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) after months of research, global think tanks and meetings involving interior designers from every continent. The declaration is an inspirational statement of the value, relevance and identity of the interior design profession.

You can listen to and download the declaration by visiting the IFI site at www.ifiworld.org

Madeline then presented awards to the winner and runner-up of the Student Interior Decoration category at this year's DesignEX - Kriszta Gabor and Jessica Cotton. Congratulations to the girls from all at DCE. We'll be posting their winning work soon - watch this space...

Just a sneak peak...

Get excited!!

Hi!

COLLABORATE AND DESIGN
This blog has been set up to represent and promote the work of Design Centre Enmore graduating Interior Design and Interior Decoration students (degree, advanced diploma and diploma).

Each year, graduating students work together to design, fund and stage an exhibition. This high-profile event represents the culmination of our studies and gives us the opportunity to show the design community our work, ideas and collaborations. This year’s exhibition will take place November 22 2011.

During the year, this blog will feature graduate exhibition information, students’ work, fundraising events, and interviews with industry.

CO|LAB
Each year the graduate exhibition design is decided in a competition between students, with 16 design teams this year presenting a wide variety of concepts and layouts.

The winning team for the 2011 exhibition presented their concept CO|LAB and won with overwhelming support from the student and teaching body. The team includes – Sanova Amiri, Connie Condylios, Alan Foster, Tuyen Le, Elizabeth Phan and Kelly Silm.

CO|LAB DESIGN STATEMENT
The CO|LAB exhibition is an anatomic manifestation of form and function. It is an opportunity to explore our selves as single cells that collaborate for a common purpose. CO|LAB as an event in itself is a membrane that invites guests to enter and experience Interior Design and Decoration as individuals and as a collective.

You will find images of the CO|LAB design proposal here and we will soon present a video interview with the design team, with much more to come – watch this space!
